1). God doesn’t have a Speaking Problem; We have a Hearing Problem. a). (Luke 8:8 NIV) – He who has EARS, let him Hear. 1). Just about every human being born has literal Ears. 2). This is obviously not what God is referring to in these verses. b). God is telling us a few things here: 1). We all don’t always Hear what He has to say. 2). Some Don’t have the Ability to hear what God has to say. 3). Some Choose to not hear God. They Rebel against God. 4). Some, over time, have become Dull in their hearing. c). The problem is not with God, it’s with us.
2). (Pro. 3:6 MSG) – We should be on the alert for God to speak to us. a). God speaks to us today in various ways. 1). (Heb. 1:1 NIV) – He Speaks through His Son. a). The Living Word has left us the Written Word. b). The Living Word has left us The Holy Spirit. c). The Living Word has left us Godly Counsel. (People) d). The Living Word has left us His Intervention in our lives. e). The Living Word has left us a close Relationship between His Spirit and Our Spirit. b). The Problem seems to be with our Hearing not Gods speaking.
I)—HEARING PROBLEMS START IN THE HEART. a). To Hear from the Lord you must know Him in your Heart. 1). (John 10:3-5 NIV) – He calls His sheep by name. Because He knows them Personally. (Born Again) 2). His sheep follow Him. They follow His voice. a). They are accustomed to His voice. They know it. b). They are in proper relation to Him. He’s ahead and they follow, not the opposite. 3). They will not follow another voice – instead they run from it. a). You either run to another voice and follow or you run from it.
b). To Hear from the Lord, Your Heart Must Be Prepared. (Luke 8:5-15 NIV) – 4 conditions of the heart 1). THE POLLUTED HEART – (Luke 8:12 NIV) a). To Pollute – To Contaminate with harmful or poisonous substances. To have a heart full of things the enemy can use to keep us from hearing God’s voice. b). The enemy can’t take it away but can pollute your heart so you can’t hear and think on it and absorb it. 1). It can be Pollution you bring on yourself. a). Choices you made, Places you go, Thoughts you entertain, Words you speak. b). I don’t need the devil to bring harm on myself. c). I can bring sin into my life where I can’t hear God. 2). It can be pollution others bring into your life. a). Problems between you and someone else. 3). It can be pollution the enemy brings into your life. a). Temptations and sin. SP You can’t Hear God’s voice if you have pollution in there. (James 1:21 NLT)- 2). THE DISTRACTED HEART – (Luke 8:13 NLT) a). There was competition for the nourishment. 1). Hot winds – trouble drained the nourishment. b). Distractions keep us from hearing from God. 1). Distractions – something that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. c). Distractions come in various forms – 1). Trouble – Good Things – People – Material things – Money - Work – Recreation – Etc. d). (Luke 10:39-40 AMP) – Martha was Distracted from Hearing. 3). THE IMMATURE HEART – (Luke 8:14 NIV) a). The weeds mentioned represent neglect. 1). The Word fell on neglected soil. (weeds grew) b). When WORRIES choke out the word in your life, and you have matured in your walk with God. 1). (Phil. 4:6-7 NIV) – c). God wants us to Grow Up. 1). God wants you to Read His Word. (2 Tim. 2:15 NIV) 2). God wants you to Mature. (Eph. 4:11-16 NIV) 3). Quit acting like lost people. (I Cor. 3:1-3 NIV) d). (Heb. 12:1-2 NLT) – 4). THE PREPARED HEART – (Luke 8:15 NIV) a). God’s voice is Clearest in a Prepared Heart. b). Three Words of Encouragement: 1). Repent – Change your Thinking which changes direction. 2). Refocus – Renew your commitment to God. 3). Revive – Ask God to Bring Revival into your Heart. c). (2 Cor. 7:1 MSG) – II)—CONCLUSION: WHAT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT TELLING YOU TODAY?
